mounting a european mount - HELP
I just finished an European mount of a nice 8 pt deer. I used the following plaque from Van Dykes
http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/product/01007007/
Now I am having trouble attaching it to the wall. The mount is very front heavy and leans forward. I have dry wall walls so I can use any type of anchor or attach directly to a stud. There is nothing on the back of the plaque that I can use as hook or even a hole to use to attach it to a nail. Which BTW the hole doesn't work because I drilled a hole in the back and tried attaching it to a nail. It wouldn't hold. Any suggestions??
I would appreciate any help yoiu can give me.

Check out the selection of hangers at the local hardware store. Get one that will "hang" on to the head of a screw or nail. To make it more secure, slide a washer over the nail or screw before attaching it to the wall. Buy a hanger that will hang over that washer. Attached the hanger as close to the top of the backboard as you can. I hope all that made sense.

M. Magis.. thanks for the advice. I'll check out the local hardware store again. Maybe Ill even bring up the skull mount .. that ought to drive the yuppies crazy!
Hey DD, What part of Bama are you from? I used to have that state as a territory and loved it. The people always treat this Yankee right. Of course I was born in NC so I guess I am a reb by birth.

Look on the back of any picture frame and you will see the attachment that looks kinda' like this wwwwwwww. You can buy this type of hanger from the local hardware store. While your in the anchor section you will see screws that have a plastic anchor (this part goes into the wall) after you drill a small hole in the wall (hole has to be a little smaller than the anchor so it's a tight fit). This should work well for you and you shouldn't even have to attach it to a stud. Also the next time you put a skull on the plague just get a 3" screw and screw in into the front of the plaque. The skull can be placed over the screw to hang, keeping it from being top heavy. Hope this makes sense.

I prefer the screw type anchor. The kind you drill a small hole and then push in the anchor do not seem to hold as well. The screw in type do not require a pilot hole, the anchor is "self tapping". These are far more stable for something that may be "top heavy"!
