Flesher Question

Just starting to look into some taxidermy stuff, more I find out, the less I know. Can someone please give me a brief idea of what a flasher does and how it works? Thanks.

RE: Flesher Question

Briefly a flesher is like a circle saw blade but with a cupped edge. You set the guards so that only a bit of the cupped edge sticks out and "slide" the hide, usually left to right to remove meat and thin the skin. Most begginners think that if the meat is gone its ready. It actually has to be thinned quite a bit at times. Heck most folks that do dry preservative don't even get all the veins and tissue down to skin only. Even leave meat here and there. I'm not much on dry preservative. Its not a good method. But thats just me. I was taught differently than some while in school.
