Coyote tanning
Hey guys, i recently shot a nice coyote and am wanting to tan it. The problem is that I have already boraxed the hide, it is not totally "cured" yet , but it is getting there. I was wondering if i will still be able to use the tanning kit that i have on that hide? Also, if I am not, is there anything that I can mask or help eliminate some of the smell from the hide. I had fleshed out the hide and then washed it thouroughly, but now after it has been sitting out with borax on it, it has a slight odor. Thanks for the input, it is greatly appreciated.

RE: Coyote tanning
Now that the borax is on it, it's highly unlikely you can do anything with it. Coyotes STINK and need washed and degreased during the tanning process. You could TRY to rehydrate the hide, scrub the borax off, and proceed with tanning. But, I seriously doubt you'll be able to get all the borax out of it. The borax will really cause problems with the PH in the tanning process. Still, you don't have much to lose.
