Turkey Beards

What can you put on turkey beards to preserve them.

Borax or salt will preserve the meaty end. Change out what you use a couple of times after 2 days.

Nothing. There should be nothing to preserve on a beard. Just pluck it from the bird like you would a feather. I like to put a little epoxy on the end just to make sure it can't come apart if handled poorly.

If the turkey was taken with a shotgun and you have the spent shell, drill out the primer and put a piece of leather thru it and make a loop for hanging. Then cut the plastic shell off shotgun shell and then with a good epoxy put your turkey tail butt into the shotgun shell you drilled out and then you can hang them that way. You can also get fancy and have a plaque made, have it made big enough to hang several beards. This way you always have the shell that took the bird, and it looks pretty cool...

I dont think I would pull off the beard. I might try some thing like a knife:eek:

Using a knife leaves a big piece of skin attached to the beard. Plucking is the only way to do it cleanly.
