mounting bear cub sitting?
i have a 60lb bear cub hide being tanned . i want to have it mounted in a sitting position with its front paws on the ground. i was told that this form was a real hard one to mount,my hide i split up the back from neck to tail. i was talking to a long time taxidermist in my area and he says that in order get the hide on this type of form you must cut the legs off the bear and sew them back on. have any of you taxidermist every mounted a cub like this ,if so how hard is it? he told me he charges as much to mount a sitting cub as he does a big bear or more because of the extra sewing .

I think you may have misunderstood him. The legs of the manikin may need to be cut off, but not the legs of the bear itself. There is extra work involved with that pose, but not like you're tinking. As for cost, it seems like you’re expecting a lesser price because of the smaller size, and that’s not always the case. Everyone has there own way of setting prices so it’s not my place to question his. He needs to make a living just like the rest of us.

nope ,he says that the hide won't go on the farm period unless you cut the legs off of the hide and sew them back on. he was not talking about cutting the form. her's the form i want to use http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/pro...ting-with-rods |

I do understand, but it seemes a little tasteless to ask in such a way. Perhaps I took it wrong.

this guy won't be mounting my bear,he was at my taxidermist shop and told my guy that he had used that form and it was impossible to mount without cutting up my hide. i trade work with my taxidermist and he has done lots of bear ,but never with this form. now he's wondering whether the other guy was right or wrong.i'm going to call the form maker and see what they say. thanks for the help.
by the way,yes here in va. this cub is not a legal kill unless you have crop damage tags and thats how i got this cub. so its legal. boilermaker, HUH? |
