Restoring color to antlers

Hey guys, not sure if you saw the post on "Dead Buck" or not. If you did you know how bleached out those antlers are. I've been looking at different ways to try to restore some color back to those. I practiced on a smaller set.

What do you think?

I actually just used three different colors of stain. I used what they call "Natural" (light), "Golden Pecan" (darker), and "Dark Walnut"(darkest).

I did the whole thing in Natural just to get a little color on it. Just gave it a coat or two until I liked the color. Then I mixed some Pecan and Natural together and repeated it. Then I used just the Pecan around the bases and up the back where the "darker parts" would be. Once I was finished with that then I did the same with the Walnut.

Pretty easy really.

I'm not quite done yet. I'm gonna touch up a few of the lighter spots with some of the Dark Walnut.

One tip to give you though, is have a spare shed laying next to it that you can compare and match with. It really helped!

Where did you buy the stain, a home center like Home Depot or Lowes ?

Nope- just Walmart!

I think the key to it is to just start light and gradually get darker coat by coat. I think the other side of it I may try to go with a real chocolate colored antler, because the big one I am going to try would have been a really dark rack I think.

Be sure to show the other side as well. Went to WalMart but they didn't have the 3colors, only the natural. Will check another one tomorrow.

Here is what I used! Maybe a hardware store?

Atleast you can see them, maybe find some similar?
