Tanning a hide

Well I have helped my brother tann some hides but they always lose their hair. How can you tan a hide and make it stay. I know you can buy kits to help but there wasnt kits back in the old days so there has to be techniques I dont know

It's got nothing to do with kits. It's all about preventing bacteria growth. There's no way for anyone to say where you went wrong. Especially since you never mentioned what method you used. I'll tell you in advance, you'll not get the quality at home you can get from a tannery. You simply don't have the equipment.

Well to be a good outdoorsman I think you should master every aspect of the field. Hunters have been tanning hides for years without equipment. I just gotta research the process some more.

That's funny. Your arrogance will go away in a hurry once you figure out what is actually involved.

the native americans used to tan their hides with Brains from the animal. "Brain Tan" Theres plenty of books and info on that method for the good outdoorsman. I use a pressure tanner and when shaved properly with my dakota pro fleshing maxhinei get fantastic results.
