Need Help Choosing Pose
Right now I have bucks mounted upright with slight turns to the left and right. I have my 2008 buck at the taxidermist now but can't decide on a pose. I would like to show off it's rack from the best angle. Can anyone suggest a pose and provide a picture of what it looks like?
Here's what the buck looks like. Thanks. |
RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
My personal favorite is a semi sneak with an offset shoulder, I also like the Full sneak with a turn for showing off the head gear. But you gotta find what you like, look through his catalogs(taxidermist) and pic something that pops right out at ya! Good luck and congrats on the dandy buck!

Thanks. I have a full sneak now, but this buck will be too high on the wall for that to look good. The taxidermist is 2 hours away so I won't be able to head over there any time soon.
He's going to be replacing the 8 pointer that's over the bedroom door in this picture. |
RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
An offset shoulder, semi-upright, right hand turn would look good there.

RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
I would go with the full sneak with a slight left head turn. Also, I would have the ears back. That would exaggerate his width a good bit. Good buck, I'm sure he will look great any way you choose.

i would go with the full-sneak also

I really like the McKenzie 6500 - Semi-Sneak Pose. It is one I recommend often.

RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
Thanks guys. I talked to my taxidermist and he says he can do any pose I find. I was wondering if there was a certain vendor of forms he used but he said he uses them all. Whatever the customer wants.
We've always used the upright, slight turn pose. They look great. I just thought I'd try something different. Here is my buddy's buck in the standard we always get. |
RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
i went with a semi sneak, offset shoulder and left turn and head should be slightly lowered..nose kinda downward...i'll post pics this weekend..picking him up friday...
i dont see a problem with a full sneak over the door there where you wanna put him..IF you want a full sneak... ...gotta think about where people are going to see him from if you want the best side showing..turn him so that side is seen best... i went with the pose i liked and pretty much the pose he was in when i shot him...and it will show off his strong side well tons of options....will be a while before the taxi REALLY needs to know...take your time and find what YOU like.. |
RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
I had a full sneak done for an archery 6 pointer a few years ago. I have it posed at eye level and it looks great. Up high, it looked stupid. Check out where it is now.

If it were me....and it's not...and I know this reply is late....however I did it I would want the right (looking at the pic, left side) main beam to be the one out in the middle of the room since the g3 on the left beam isnt as long.....idk technical names and it is probably what the others have mentioned

RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
Well, I won't have to decide until about March. Hide was sent to California to be tanned and the taxi will start putting bucks together in March and April.
We were thinking that, if he is facing right (left when you look at him), he might look better. You'd get a better look at the side with the longer G3 and it would accent the longer mainbeam on the other side. Kind of like this angle: |
RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
I like Coomb's Classic forms..........Any of the Semi Sneak or Semi Upright with a little sweep and/or offset.
Put the strong side out. Personally I HATE full sneak forms, and the only ones I hate even more are those head down aggressive specialty types. [:o] If I live to have 100 deer on the walls NONE of them willEVER be Full Sneak or upright w/head down. LOL :D |
RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
Maybe this will help you. My favorite (and most popular) is the 8400. Semi-upright, offset shoulder...

RE: Need Help Choosing Pose
I like the semi-sneak, semi-upright, and the aggressive. It's kind of hard to say what I would go with on that buck though.
