I pretty much taught myself. Eventually I'd like to get formal schooling and work with another taxidermist on perfecting eyes, muscles, etc. but for now I learn by experience. Start with a few small animals, squirrels, etc. with some kits from Wasco or Van Dykes to see if its for you. They sell videos, books, etc. in addition to anything else you might need.

just got done checking out wasco's website thank you so much for the info and a squirrel sounds great to try my hand at it. at least you wont be upset if you ruin a squirrel hide.

but i have one question the kits say they come with instructions. now i imagine the hardest part of taxidermy is getting the hide off with in one piece. now do the instructions show you the right way to do this or do i need another source of instructions.

They should walk you through it pretty easily, but if you need more help just google "skinning a squirrel" and you should come up with quite a few step-by-steps.

Check out http://www.taxidermy.net they have begining sections and any thing you need for taxidermy. Don't just go there and ask. Look around and use the search options before you ask a question that has been asked over and over. Good Luck. Rich
