Cleaning skull plate

So I was fortunate enough to get my first bow buck - and first buck ever - last night. The processor cut the skull cap and antlers off for me and I'd like to mount it with one of those kits. Question is, what's the best way to get the meat, tissue and fur off before I do so?

Also, its not a huge buck by any means but its going to be a nice memory. Any thoughts or other ideas than the traditional kit for doing something with it?

Thanks.

Just take a knife and skin off the hide from the plate, when you get to the antler burr you can use a screw driver to work your way around it if you have trouble (prying up the hide) then use your knife to remove any excess meat and tissue, cover the skull plate in borax and let it dry for a couple weeks. Must easier and smells better than boiling it. Then mount it with your kit. good Luck!

Thanks for the tips guys. I already started boiling it a couple of hours ago around dinner time on a camp stove on a picnic table in the back yard. (old pot wife will never let me use again.) I pulled it out a few times and scraped it with a paint scraper and almost everything has come off. Just some fatty residue here and there. I'll leave it in for another hour and then take it out and scrape one more time. Then what, leave it dry out for awhile?

yep let it dry a while, rub some borax on it to "Bug proof" it.

I boiled an entire skull and cleaned off what would pull off. Then I tied it up in a tree and let it hang for a year. The bugs did all the dirty work and there was not a speck of anything left on it.

Stick it in the ground for a few weeks. The bugs will take care of it for you.
