Pedestal mount - Making the base
 

Anyone got any tips on how to make my base?

I will be utilizing a cedar post (about 8" dia) and I'll be amking a base about 2' square (or thereabouts).

My inclination tells me to take 4ea 2x6's and run them from the outside edges to the post (see detail).

Will this work?
