euro mount?

Whats the average price of getting a buck euro(sp0? I have a friend that just digs a hole and puts antlers and all in the ground. I just saw it today (before it was washed off) and it really looked cleaned. Said he was going to wash it and then peroxide. He said the squirrels and mice might eat the antlers, so he buries them also. I would prefer getting it done by a Taxidermist if it wasn't to costly!
Thanks
Crutch

Hey Crutch,

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and I have a skull cleaning business. I charge $100 for a whitetail deer which includes beetle cleaning, chemical degreasing, peroxide whitening and clear coat to seal the skull. Additional plaques and pedestals range in price from $35-60 for wall aplaqueand $60-100 for a wall or tablepedestal. The higher prices are for cherry, black walnut, or birds eye maple. So anywhere you go, expect to pay around $100 for skull cleaning and whitening. Be careful with taxidermists that boil skulls! They never turn out as nice asthe beetle cleaned or macerated process! Also make sure they are not using bleach to whiten! The bleach breaks down the bone on a molecular level and will continue to degrade over time causing the skull to flake. A good indicator as to the quality of the work is if the deers nasal turbinales are still in place. Quality skull cleanersstrive to leave the delicate nasal bones in place! If you have the time and the stomach I can teach you a process to macerate your own skulls in the garage or shed!I hope this helps, good luck, DREW

M.O.A. Custom Skulls here in Ohio. Steve charges $80.00 for a deer skull. He is on the Taxidermy Net, www.taxidermy.net, under Ohio Taxidermists. Dermestid beetle cleaning, excellent results.

Not sure I can ship the whole head? I also heard you can put it in a wire cage in the spring and let it just set outside, bugs and flies ect will clean it pretty good. Then need to wash and use peroxide?
thanks guys!

20 bucks for a kit that will do at least 3 euro deer sculls. I boil mine on a turkey cooker in a large pot. Gross for the first time, but works well.

Anybody know what salt solution/chemical you use for boiling?

I just throw mine in the lake for a few weeks. It gets all the fur and brains off and out. But the skull is yellowish.
