Price Question

To have a shoulder mount of a deer done here in Virginia the price is around $400. I am heading up to Canada in the fall to hunt and plan on taking a brute. Do you think the shoulder mount will cost more because the body size of the deer will be larger then local deer, meaning the taxadermist will probably have to order a larger mold or frame.

Thanks

I don't think it will cost you more, the taxidermist I use here in NJ charges $575. Best of luck on your hunt!!!!

RE: Price Question

Maybe, the form is more expensive. Some don't charge extra but most do.

The forms only vary a few bucks ($)from the smallest to the largestsizes.
Mature deer have thicker skin and require more shaving to get it thin enough. By rights, they should charge more for that but most don't.
When mounting, one deer is like the next. Size doesn't matter.

Big - brought up one of the biggest mistakes that a hunter makes. Do your homework!!! Find a taxidermist before ever going hunting. Find out what he likes, what he expects, what he charges, how his work looks. I feel bad for Big, he got screwed and if he didn't live so far away I would be interested in doing something with it.

RE: Price Question

Yikes! I STILL cant believe that mount! No, the shoulder mount should be the same price regardless of size or where its from. The only additional charges might be due to additional fees involved, which I dont usually see, anyway. Go ahead and ask your taxidermist in advance, thats the best bet!
