Can it be mounted???

I shot my first deer this past season, it was a button buck, maybe 80lbs.The fur on the deer is thick cause i shot it during the winter and he had his winter coat.He fir is realy thick. Most deer i have seen moutned dont have fur like this, so i not sure if it can be mounted. Also i am going to try to mount it myself, being its a button buck, i dont want to bring it to a taxidermist, because i cant see it worth being mounted, So im going to try to mount it myself, and buy some videos and kits to do it with. Also would you suggest mounting it like a doe and not a buck? Thanks guys

YEs, it can be mounted but why wouldn't you want to take it to a pro? This is your first deer. What if you mess it up? Is it worth saving a few dollars or screwing up your first deer?

Im 17 and dont have the money to dish out into gettin it mounted.Plus its a button buck.I figure if i do it my self its no big deal if i mess it up cause i wasnt planing on mounting it anyway. Also i want to get into taxidermy and figured it will be a good practice deer.If it comes messed up atleast i will have the skull.

Call Research Mannikins @ 800-826-0654 and ask for Mark Mclain and tell him what you wanna do, he will suggest the video for you. Its not hard, and button bucks are mounted from time to time. No need to mount as a doe. They all have that heavy hair the first year, at least up north. Have fun!

Nothing wrong with the thick hair, I think deer like that make pretty and interesting mounts. Just like a short haired cape makes a beautiful mount. There's also nothing wrong with mounting a button buck. It will be good practice and you won't be messing up some big buck's cape. So go for it and have fun.

hey guys im new to this forum, im 18 years old and i mounted one deer that is hot, it was a little four pointer. its deffinetly worth mounting yourself if you want to get into it, but if you want it done perfect bring it to a taxidermist when you get some money. just pu te cape in the freezer for a while.
