Van Dykes panfish kit?
Now that I have some time I have been looking at some taxidermy kits, one looks interesting to me. It is a Van Dykes Pan Fish Mounting Kit. I catch a lot of pan fish through the ice so it seems like something I can find specimens for. The questions are this does anyone have experience with this kit? And I don’t see any forms so do you just inject the fish with something or what? I know I sound dumb but really want to get some experience.

RE: Van Dykes panfish kit?
bUYING kITS FOR PAN FISH ARE NOT COST EFFICIENT, AT LEAST NOT FOR ME.
You can buy eyes from van dyke real cheap and you can buy perlite filler at your local Hardware and use that to stuff the small pan fish. And all you need is 1 gallon of denature alcohol to preserve the skin, to which you mis 50% water 50% D. alcohol, soak the sking for 3 or 4 hours and you can mount the fish by the stuffing method. |
RE: Van Dykes panfish kit?
probably a dumb question, but how do you get the inside's out to stuff it. Will it show a cut if you cut the fish open to remove the insides? JW

I suggest you buy a fish mounting video, it will show you how to skin a fish and mount it.
