tanning coyote
How much does it cost to get a coyote pelt tanned? Is this something I can buy kits for, and do myself? Thank You!

RE: tanning coyote
You can order a kit from McKenzie Taxidermy Supply. A coyote is more prone to slippage than some, but it can be done. Just remember that your working against the clock, the heat from your fingers can cause slippage. The shear nature of coyotes, bobcats and fox make them more prone to slippage due to their diet. Hope it helps

RE: tanning coyote
Thanks for responding but what do you mean by slippage. Also any idea what the cost would be just to send it in and have the coyote pelt tanned. Thank you.

RE: tanning coyote
Slippage is when the hair falls out. Mostly caused by bacteria and heat, butthere is chemical slippage.Cost depends on how you send it and how you want it tanned. If you want a soft rug type versus being able to mount. I really don't recommend trying to do a coyote for a novice, but if you go towww.taxidermy.net and go to the search button and type in tanning a coyote or something similar. Good luck. If you find after reading, that it's too big a project, call a local taxidermist.

RE: tanning coyote
Is the coyote skinned, fleshed and salted? If so contact Moyle mink and tannery, I think they are located in Idaho. I heard they do a good job on furs and reasonably priced, but turnaround can be slow.
