Preparing a deer skin

How exactly do you prepare a deer skin so that it can be hung on a wall. I want it to be soft and leathery and not hard like cardboard.

There's a lot more to it than I could explain well on a computer. Honestly, your best bet is to have a taxidermist send it to a tannery. Rugs are not easily done at home, and unless you have the equipment, a tannery will do a much superior job.

I hade one done at a tannery and it was only 70 bucks. Well worth it for the result and not having to worry about the process myself.
