What to use on a fox

If i am going to get a fox mounted, what would a taxidermist prefer that i use. A 12 guage or a 22lr?

I found mine on the road! Don't laugh it was fresh and barely hit, still warm not a drop off blood. Now that I think back I'm lucky the thing didn't wake upand chew my hand off! It's a grey!

Personally, Ihave had good luck with a fox hit with 6 shot or smaller, as it wads up in the hair as much as penetrates. A good heart hit with a 22 or 17is also easy to correct too. Head shots from either will earn them a decline from my studio, in hopes for another speciman later.

Just got mine with a 25-06... You would think that would destroy it, but I was "lucky" I guess, not too much damage, the exit wound (low shoulder blade) just split the fur. Lots of blood and interior damage, but amazingly not much fur damage...

I use a 223 on my coyote and fox hunts. With a good shot it doesn't mess it up too bad.
