Mr.Yox-Day and a half Deer head?????

Bill,I think you should explain your day and a half Deer head mounting time!!!Or even the half a day Squirrel Mount!!!!
I am not bashing you,but you have left people thinking"12 hours{day and a half}to do a Deer head mount!!!4 hours{1/2 a day}for a Squirrel??"
Most people think in an 8 hour day?Let these folks know how long a Taxidermist day can be!If you could punch a clock for each specimen, from when it is taken in until it is given back, there a lot more time in it{deer mount}than a day and a half!!!!!!
I can see a pile of threads be typed in,to the site"12 hourdeer head,Why so high a price?" Then the Pick on a "Taxidermist" begins!!!

half a day might be the actual mounting time not all the time required in preping and tanning and getting the skin ready to mount, I know I take about 4-5 hours to do the actual mount and get all my muscle details and veins etc .

Mountingman, I guess I didnt go into details, but I sure see your point. For what its worth, I COULD have said I do three an hour, and way over-charge people, but they really couldnt b*tch, as a price is all we quote, its up to them to decide, lol. Try this...

Ive got 30 minutes talking to the customer when he brings the head in, fifteen to write it up. After hes gone, Ill have about 5 more minutes of other paperwork, 15 to 20 minutes caping, 15 more to split and salt, and at some point another 5 to cut and clean off the skull. Months later Ill have another 20 minutes fine tuning the finished cape back from the tannery, then that day and a half to mount it. Ill babysit it for a few days as it begins to dry. Once dry I will spend about an hour doing finish work, then whatever time spent again with the customer at pick up time. At the same time Im doing all of this, Ill also be bouncing around to other mounts, and other jobs. A typical day for me is approximately 17 hours, when you include all my chores with my deer farm and spending time with my four children.

I'm just a wannabe Taxi so take this for what it is worth. You quote a price, do the work and the customer gets your talent on his wall for a lifetime. It is really irrelevant and none of the customers business in how long it takes in hours. If you can do high quality work in very little time it is to your benefit and profit. Productivity...GOOD!
