RE: What was your best score?
I love shooting archery, but I have to say, I feel that indoor spot shooting and perfecting your form is the best way to improve your archery skill. Shooting spots made me better at 3-d, outdoor NFAA and hunting.
Here's a pic of my son and I at the Indoor nationals in Tulsa, Ok in 1999. We both took 3rd, how cool is that? ![]() |
RE: What was your best score?
I havent shot indoor fora few years, I dont go into the local bow shop anymore, but miss shooting indoors. My best was 300 with mid 50s X count, I averaged mid 50s for a while when I was shooting lots, but never got above 57. It was with a Mathews Conquest 2 with a Tox Naildriver and a Fat Boy 6 power scope and and Easton stabilizer. Great form practice and really improves the 3-d game. I hope If I get to build a new house I can make enough room in the basement for an indoor range to shoot more.

niehenke, keep at it. There will be lots of ups and downs, but overall improvement will come with practice and dedication. Also actively search out critique and coaching from those who can provide it legitimately.
After just general shooting without much focus for quite a few years, I got into the spot scene. I managed to see good improvement for about 3 years before I had major shoulder meltdowns. The best level I got to was 51x and used to average in the mid 40's. Now I'm working my way up again from the basement and managed a 298-32x tonight. Regardless, it's awfully nice to be shooting again.:) |

Now thats cool, wish I had got more pictures of the family when we were all shooting together. |
RE: What was your best score?
I've never shot many 300 rounds even though I ran a shop with 12 indoor lanes for a few years, and we ran leagues every winter. One reason being I was usually swamped. I did shoot a few, and it was always with my hunting setup. I usually shot around 296 and the best I ever shot was a 298. 60 arrows was a lot for a 70# hunting bow. At least the last 20 arrows were alway tough to me.

RE: What was your best score?
boy, haven't thought of those in a long time. My competition hayday was way back in the 70s. 300 rounds with sight & American Archery 70" Pro-Supreme 42# Recurve. Several with fingers (Tab) Best xs I think around 48-never broke 50. Outdoor- NFAA Animal Round, unmarked yardages, fingers (Barebow, no sights) 560 (28 shots & 28 hearts) same bow.NFAA Field average, fingers, around 510 Barebow & averaged 540 with sight. When I went to release & Sights permanent & the compound my scores really never went up to much.. Still shot several 300s & the xs went up to around 54 average. Outdoor, I posted a few perfect rounds in animal & Field. Outdoor PAA I think my best was 297.
The thing I remember most was BREAKING 500 for the 1st time outdoors with my Recurve AND in the state tournament & the perfect animal round barebow. Now I just arrow those biggame animals & practice at home. If I came out of retirement, some of you young fellas would probably feel bad getting beat by a guy on Medicare. Enjoy this great sport. |
