Italian Spinone

Anyone have any experience with these dogs? I've read proviles of the breed from breeder's sites and clubs, but want to know if any of you have had first hand experience.

I have only seen one or two at NAVHDA tests and both of those were at the puppy tests. The ones I saw were not very hard searchers and pointed without intesity. I will say again I would not base a judgement on 1 or 2 individuals. For all I know they may be very late bloomers and do poorly at the puppy tests and super dags at the utility tests. One concern i would have if you wanted to breed them it seems they have a small breed base in the US making it harder to get a replacement. JMO good luck with you decision.

A freind has 2 .
Great bird dogs .
Also do great for late season feild and duck hunting .They can take the cold .
His swin in the 1/2 frozen river for fun.
They are known to hunt slow .
His were raised with Wimeriners and hunt fast (for Spinones)
The coat are longer and pick up every burr in the feild. Spraying them down(Pam cooking spray) before hunts saves him hours of deburing.
Plan on spending some time brushing it. LOL

Thanks for your input. Being on the slow side myself they appeal to me. I'll try to get to a field trial and meet one.

:eek:GunDog Magazine has featured them before, and I believe Pointing Dog Journal has also!
If you can search these out, you could get a little more info from the articles! I too, had toyed with the idea of the breed, being part Italian myself. Not a good reason to select any breed, but, a whim!
I've been owning and hunting Vizslas, no, hungarian in my blood that I know of, bit of other blood other than Italian, but that whim dosen't get included!
The Spinone is supposed to be a good dog!
