Is it possible to have a dog that hunts pheasants and also retrieves ducks?

Labs will.
My lab is a great duck and goose dog .
We also hunt pheasants , bobwhite quail, grouse ,chuckars and woodcock in several states.
We have duck hunted in the morning and pheasant hunted in the afternoon.
He is also invaluable when I hunt dove

That is why the Lab is the #1 versital hunting dog
I hunt my labs on ducks, Geese, pheasant, quail, and doves.
Not only does he flush the birds, he also points the ones that sit tight.
so that is what I call an all around dog and hard to beat.

check out the thread gwp my first dog there is some info in there I have trained 3 pointing labs, 1 english setter, 1 flushing lab , assisted on english pointers and am currently working on the 4th and 5th pointing labs, and I like the pointing labs as a all around dog hopefully we can get some video posted of a couple of our dogs, tig and libby, they are versatile, no doubt. lots of info on the web- check out the apla(american pointing lab association) website for a list of breeders and trainers.All reputable kennels with purebred pointing labrador bloodlines.

Don't forget that labs make great house pets as well and are even better with kids. That fact sealed the decision for me.

I am currently exploring the same question, This site[link]http://www.navhda.org/[/link] is the Versatile Hunting Dog Association. It has some info on dogs that are just that, versatile.

There are only 2 truly versatile dogs -- the GWP and the Pointing Lab.
