I just brought home a male yellow lab last weekend, and named him BOONE - I thought it was a good "hunter-type" name, & is nice and short.

Suggestion: Dammitt

(that way you don't confuse your dog when you say, "Sit Dammit", "Dammitt NO BITE!", "I said COME HERE DAMMITT!!", etc.)

RE: Dog Names???

I like outdoor names like, Drake, Robin, and Briar. If he is going to be used for upland I would name him Briar. If waterfowl call him Bog.
I named my hunting dogs Raven (Lab) and Ivy (Springer). My next hunting dog will be called Briar.

Use a Big Lead to shoot them
were they aint.

RE: Dog Names???

Whatever you do, don't let your daughter (if you have one) name him.

My daughter named our Porty "Binky".

God was that embarrassing having to yell to a dog named "Binky" all day the first time we were at a water trial!

Dad has a yellow lab named Duke.
We have a black lab named Chase. We were going to name him Scout or Terra if we got a female (we're big International Harvester 4x4 truck fans).

RE: Dog Names???

We are getting a black lab, if male we were thinking Duke, female Daisy.

Personally I like a 2 syllable name that has 1 syllable in the short form. Example: Jake and Jacob. My dog knows when he heres "jacob" that he is in trouble. I don't know why, just something that I like. Maybe my mom used my middle name too often combined with my first?

RE: Dog Names???

I have heard that 2 syllable names are better because most commmands are one syllable. It makes sense.
(Skeet has inevitably become "Skeeter")

I let my kids name the dogs, that way they get involed to, my son named our male yellow lab Sunny, my daughter named our chocolate female Sally, and the mutt's name is Cujo.

RE: Dog Names???

The original message is pretty old so I'm guessing you have already named your dog. Anyway, I have two female golden's. One is Star and the other is Sunshine. My daughter helped name them. I got kinda original with there middle names naming them after mythical sun goddeses. I just got a male...actually he is 7 months now. I named him MOJO. I got the name from the movie Austin Powers originally and then noticed that a couple of the motorized duck decoys were named MOJO. Thought that was kinda cool. Can you guess why I originally picked MOJO!!? He is coming along great by the way. Good luck. Let us know what you decide.
