Portable kennel or containment system

I could realy use some imput on this. I am tring to find the best portable kennel or containment system for my dogs when we are on the road in are tavel trailer.

My husband just made a 1 year comitment to travel with his work, I am going with him and we are bringing our two dogs. We will be spending most of our time in the woods, on logging roads. We have 3-4 months on Prince of Whales Island in AK, a few months on the passes in CA, a couple in MT, and then the rest on the Olympic Pennensula of Washington.

Here is the trouble, our GSP will take off after a scent then out lab will follow and last year on Price of Whales they got out and took off for 3 days (not an experiance I want to repeat). Normaly they are with me hiking or in the trailer. But sometimes we are in areas that they can't follow.

We don't want to just tie them up. I would like them to be able to run around. Does anyone know of a invesible fenceing system that is solar powered or can run off a battery charge? We don't have the generator on all the time.

Any thoughts?

THANK YOU!

I saw a portable fence advertised just yestewrday but can't remember where. But it would be exactly what you are looking for. If I can find it i"ll post it on here. It might have been on Gundog Supply but not sure.

If you're looking for a portable fence system, look at an x-pen. You can find them in most any pet supply mail order place.

Basically, they are a set of 8 (I think) 24" wide by whatever height you want rigid wire panels hinged together like an accordian. When folded up they form a stack 24" x height x about 3" thick. You can put as many x-pens together as you want (or can afford!) to any shape you want. Takes just a minute or two to set up.

My wife and I use them when we travel to contain our "6-pack" of Cavaliers; and when when we have litters, an x-pen sits on a piece of sheet vinyl in the house. They work very slick! Down side is that they are kind of expensive; for our 30" high sections I think we pay about $70 (but check that price in the catalog, I'm going by memory). Our 2 x-pens together make a circle of maybe 10' -12'.

If you are in an area that has a dog show coming up, you can see them in use a lot. There may also be vendors selling them at the show, but be aware of what the catalog places are selling them for before buying one at a show.

LadyByrd, I have a steele kennel that comes in sections in the backyard. Easy to put together with two people. If you are pulling a trailer it is not a bad way to go. You can make it any size you want just buy the pieces. If you don't have the means to haul it. Look at Innotec, they have some containment fences. The dogs wear a collar and if they cross the wire they get a small jolt. They quickly learn the zone. They have them up to 25 acres in size. I don't know if they run on 12volts from a battery or if they are 110 volts only. The only other way I know is a true training collar. My dogs don't go out with out one on. I use an innotec collar system BT302A.
