Flea control on pregnant bitches

Is is safe to use one spot flea/tick treatments (frontiline, advantage, bio-spot. etc.) on a pregnant German Shorthair pointer. What are your experiences or direct knowledge to this question. I have to go to connecticut this weekend to finish her for her field champion title. Any feedback will be apprecieated.

Thanks in advance, Keith

I have used a flea and tick shampoo that had cedar oil and citus in it. It worked alright but not great. I would not know if it was safe for a pregnant dog. You might try asking your vet for recomendations.

Also you can probably reduce the fleas by just managing the surrounding area with a flea bomb, or spray like zodiac carpet and upolstery spary that can prevent more from hatching and kill the existing ones in the bedding and such.

Good luck!

Is the ignorance part "ask your vet" an obvious response or something else?

LadyByrd thanks for the response but my main question is it safe to use one of the spot treatments such as "bio spot, advantage, frontline, etc. on a pregnant german shorthair pointer bitch. I have to enter her in a hunt test this weekend to finish her champion title. The hunt test is in connecticut so I'm concerned with ticks. Currently, I have no problem with fleas or ticks, I'm in the preventative mode at this point. But thanks anyway.

Sincerely, Keith:)

Nah -- it's just my signature line on nearly every forum that I visit. It's nothing personal to anybody -- it's generic only.

no offense, but advantage is crap. if you want to get something good for ticks/fleas only, use fronline. but i use sentinal and capstar. sentinal kills roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, fleas, ticks, and heartworm. the capstar goes along with it by killing the larval stage as well as the adult stage. you use that every day for 3 days, and then every other day, and you will be fea free! these are safe and important to use on pregnant and lactating bitches. hope this helps!
