Lawn Mulch That Won't Kill My Dog?

I need to replace all the bark around all the plants and gardens in my yard because my German Shorthair thinks that the gardens are just a vast resevoir of sticks for her to pick up, play with, then drop in the middle of the yard. Now, the only other cover that gets used around here is coco bean shells, but I figure that since chocolate is toxic to dogs, coco bean shells would be too.

Does anyone know whether coco bean for the garden will make a dog sick? Any other suggestions for garden cover so I can keep the sticks out of the rest of the yard?

Thanks
SL

Try stone (granit , marble, lime stone, ect) chips or brick chips. I can get fine cyprus mulch also

A kennel run will solve that (and dozens of other) problem(s).

your vet should be able to supply you with a list of all the plants that are toxic to your dog. (you may be surprised what is on that list...I would be willing to be you have more than one item on it in your yard)

I don't know if it will work well around your plants, but around our house we put down big sheet rocks of limestone. It has helped to limit the digging, and they are big enough the dogs can't eat them

I don't think rocks will work that well because these are all basically flower gardens. My folks had rocks in their flower gardens growing up and it was always a total disaster to try to move them when my mom wanted to plant flowers every year. And you can probably guess who had the job of moving all the rocks when she wanted to do that.

Maybe I can get some wood that's pulp or shredded up so it doesn't have any of those fun sticks.

From the experiences I've had with my weim, about the worst that will happen is they'll $#&t funny.

Case in point: My dog got a cut in his side that required stitches. While in the lobby of the vet's office he was still coming down off the anestetic. He decided he didn't feel so hot and vomited on the floor. Contents off stomach: grass clippings and a chuck of aluminim foil from god only knows where.

Ok, in all seriousness I'd check with your vet. Most organic ground covers (i.e., mulch) are treated with chemicals so the bugs won't eat on the so much. Whatever you use, if your dog $#&ts funny, try something else.

Try looking at http://gardensalive.com as the carry pet safe products. I have ordered from them before.
