RE: pigeons

Hey Pup,
I use pigeons to train a Springer, so I cant really help you on how many you'll need. I know I always have 2-5 on hand just about all year round.
I just have a 4' x 4' x 4' pen with a roost, and with this size, I can keep 4 or 5 for a week or so before they lose their strong flushing abilities, something important for springers but not for britany's. The bigger the pen you have the more birds you can keep, and the longer period you can keep them.

RE: pigeons

Pup, here is a site that is devoted to the sport of racing pigeons. Some members are dog folks as well. They can tell you all you need to know. Stay clear of keeping wild bird and only use these for shooting over a dog when you reach this stage of training. Wild birds can and will bring all kinds of disease into you Pigeon loft. P.S. worm your birds too! Dogs can get infected with worm and diseases of Pigeons if they ingest or come in contact with infected droppings. See http://www.comanco-web.com/discus or add "pro" on the end to access their new b.b.s. site
