by far a lab, where i hunt pointers are good but not great. Labs just push em up where a pointer can have a dozen points before he gets that actual bird.

The best pointer i ever had was a german longhair. Also the ugliest. He was a natural. We used to kill over a hundred pheasants over him every year. but he got arthritis really bad, and ended up putting him down.

I've hunted with Weimaraners my whole life and have never found a better upland bird dog. Throughout the years the only breed I've hunting with that could come close, in my opinion, was a German Wirehaired Pointer.
I would put my Weims aganst any Lab in the morning on waterfowl, and run them with any Britt or English Pointer the same afternoon for any upland bird.

Had Yellow labs, Black Labs and english pointers growing up in Maine. After 12 years in the army and the past three years in Florida I am finally moving back to maine this next spring and am going to be looking for either an English Setter or another Lab type.

MY dog is MY favorite of course. He is a Chessie named Chaos that will be 1yr next month. He quarters the field well, and stays within gun range with only an occasional reminder.
