OFF SEASON

Well next weekend I'll be chasing birds for the last time this year. Tear comes to my eye just writting this. Gona give the little bitt, 2 months off. What do you guys do with your dogs in the off-season? She's almost a year old now and I want to do more than just some road work with her.
Should I try keeping a few live birds to work her with once and a while? Or just work on basic obediance drills? What's you guy's scerets?

RE: OFF SEASON

Our wild bird season here in MI has been over for some time. Preserves are always an option....they help control cabin fever for both dog and hunter for a while. You can also get some pigeons and plant them and use them to reinforce commands such as "whoa" & "fetch", and it helps give thier nose a workout.
You can also do yard work...training new skills while reinforcing old ones; it certainly makes for less swearing come opening day! Good luck & good training!

In KY, our ruffed grouse and crow season ends on Feb. 28th. Afterwards, I use homers during the off-season and do a lot of water work, so that my dogs stay in shape.

Brddog, how about a pick of the litter and a handshake. That's how we do it in Georgia.
