Once a month and a 10th of a cc for every 10 pounds of dog and I have never had one problem with worms, fleas, ticks or anything else that lives on blood. I caught my vet giving it to his dogs about 12 years ago and he reluctantly gave up the secret. Only warning I got was that it would kill any of the Collie breeds.(Don't ask why cause I don't know) I can't imagine having to buy all of those different products for individual ailments. By the way, anyone reading this will try at his own risk.

Ivermectin is an excellent drug. It gets/kills or protects against many parasites including most intestinal worms, heartworms, and mange. Many hunting dog owners use this drug. It does, however, carry some risks. First it should never be given for the first time if the dog is older than 6 months old without ascertaining wether the dog has heartworms or not. If a dog does, the Ivermectin can potentially be fatal to the dog at worst or cause a pneumocytic pneumonia at best. It should never be used blindly. The drug should also NEVER be used by a nonprofessional in many herding breeds, especially collies since they are extremely sensitive to this drug. Also realize that you can also overdose in any breed with Ivermectin, therefore you need to be certain of the correct dosages if using this drug.

If your dog is heartworm negative, Ivermectin, used monthly, can definitely be a cheap antiparasitic treatment.

It is the same active ingredient in HeartGuard. HeartGuard is .05% Ivomec. I use it on all of my dogs and if given carefully to a dog with heartworms it will rid them but you have to be extremely careful and start out using minute dosages and gradually build the dog upi to a lethal strength. One more thing DON'T USE Ivomec plus IT IS LETHAL TO DOGS!!!!!!
