Anbody Else Hunt ESS

Anybody Else Hunt FB English Springer Spaneils. Got a 1 year old pup out of Field Trial stock that shown me some awsome ability and is scary smart. He goes to boot camp with a trainer to steady him to wing and shot and finish him for me.

I hunt over a 3 year old ESS. I have been very impressed with her intelligence and trainability. She works hard for me for both upland and waterfowl.

I had owned and hunted mostly over German Shorthairs but due to apartment living for a few years I went with a Springer ... and while I do miss from time to time hunting over a true pointer, her hunting versatility and very home freindly nature has vaulted her to the top of the list of my favorite dogs.

One thing I have found with my Springer. Repetive drills are great for some dogs, but if I don't challenge her mind during training, she gets bored. The harder the better in her case.

I have a two yr old male Springer that I will spend time with this Fall. He has been thru advanced obedience training and loves to be trained. He has spent time in the field with wings etc, but has never flushed a game bird yet. My big concern is that he is highly afraid of loud noises and I suspect he may be gunshy, at least at the beginning. I have been given great input and suggestions about this matter with some if the folks on this board. Hopefully in time (a long time) and with a lot of patience, things will work out.....

Jimmy-

I just noticed you were in NH. If you would like to get together for some Springer training this summer let me know. I'm currently building a house in Brookline NH and hunt quite a bit in the state. I may run out to a bird farm to grab some birds to train with .. and if I do, I'd be happy to let you work them.

My Springer is good to train around for other dogs as she is all business when it comes to training and hunting.

MA Jay....I live in Windham, not far from Brookline (near 125?)..I would love to touch base with you. I thank you for your generous offer. He (Ranger Pete) and I look forward to meeting with you and your Springer. Should be a great learning experience for him and myself as well........ Jimmy

Yahoo, I just got a call from trainer, all the field disipline i did with him durring early spring isv paying off. He was able to get him steady to shot(9days). Obviously hes got alot more reps to prove it but that is good sign.
Just curiouse how many of you guys train your dogs to be steady to wing and shot.
