RE: Trying to figure out the name of a retriever

Don't really know ,might have just been a particular color of a springer and they mentioned bloodline?
But Westminster Kennel Club dog show is on TV tonight with the sporting dog group ,maybe you'll see it there.

RE: Trying to figure out the name of a retriever

HNI;
I am willing to bet that the breed you are refering to is the "Munsterlander"; there are two distinct breeds: the large (Gross) Munsterlander, and the small (Kleine) Munsterlander. The difference (besides size) is color; Large Munsterlanders are black & white, Small Munsterlanders are brown and white, and yes..they do look a bit like a spaniel (the large look a bit like an English Setter).
They are a German versatile breed and have a big following in the Nordic countries as well as Germany. Their popularity is starting to grow in the U.S. They point, retrieve, and track as do all the other continental breeds.
My friend just got a Large Munsterlander pup last fall. She is about 5 months now and he has been working with her a bit, and Saturday we brought her over to play with some live pigeons...she did well, and a couple of times we had a pretty, classic point with the front paw raised and the tail held high...and no camera! We look forward to hunting over her next fall.

I almost forgot...don't bother looking for them at the Westminster show; they are not a breed recognized by the AKC, which IMHO is a good thing.
