RE: Lyme Disease ?
So sorry to hear this, but I am glad to say I don't have this problem-no offense but i love my dog!:(
From what I understand about Lyme disease in humans you can't totally cure the seizures. Epilepsy is also a likely problem. sorry to hear this.:( |
RE: Lyme Disease ?
My German Shep had it a few years back. His joints were sore all the time and he lost some weight. Soon as we thought he was over it he started having seizures. They thought he would have epilepsy also, but after about 3-4months he never had anymore. 3-4months sounds long but once it started to clear it only had about 1 per month. Good luck I hope it clears up!!

RE: Lyme Disease ?
We use a spray on him now. Once every month. Kills ticks, fleas, misquitos, etc. Seems to be working. It's from the local Tractor Supply Co.

RE: Lyme Disease ?
Jim.....
1. One of my labs has epillepsy and is on 60mg of phenolbarbitol twice a day. He would sieze 1-2 times per week. With the meds...he has not had a seizure in over a year. 2. I use to use Frontline for ticks and even had my boys vaccinated for lymes, however my new vet said it can be very inefective. The best way to ensure your dog does not get lymes is to give him a cycle of Doxycycaline (sp?) once per year preferably at the end of the fall season. It takes several months for lymes to incubate and the doxy will knock it out of the dog. 3. Sorry to hear your dog still has a high level of lymes in his system. Good Luck and Good Training |

RE: Lyme Disease ?
Jim. It is fronline, but I was wrong before, it ain't a spray. It's drops that go behind the collar.
It's supposed to kill all three. |
RE: Lyme Disease ?
NO dog, but I had it once.
|
RE: Lyme Disease ?
That must have been rough buckslayer.
Jim-Fronline and Frontline arn't the same thing. Fronline is a knock-off of K9 Advantix (sp?) just so you know. |

RE: Lyme Disease ?
Right. Frontline is a collar and kills fleas and ticks.
Fronline is a knock off of Advantix and is supposed to kill fleas, ticks, and mosquitos. K-9 Advantix was more $ to do the same thing. I sure hope Jake is allright. I bet it livend him up to bust those birds. |
RE: Lyme Disease ?
I used Frontline on my boy and it was a liquid that you apply between the dawgs shoulderblades. I never heard of Fronline? Do you buy it from a vet? Just Curious.....we have alot of ticks here in NJ.

I never heard of Fronline? Do you buy it from a vet? I use the Frontline collar and K-9 Advantix drops and don't seem to have any problems. |
RE: Lyme Disease ?
I used to use Frontline too, but I have switched to K9 Advatix. Seems to work well. My vet sells both but he highly reccommends the K9 Advantix. I trust my vet and his reccommendation is good enough for me. Hope you get your problem cleared up and your buddy gets to feeling better real soon.

RE: Lyme Disease ?
Great news Jim, glad to hear it.
|
RE: Lyme Disease ?
Frontline also makes a spray, which works great on fleas and ticks. If you find your dog covered in ticks, use this stuff and the next day they will all be shriveled up dead. it works great to keep them off of the dog as well. im a vet and this stuff works.

RE: Lyme Disease ?
Guys and Gals!
I work in the industry is the first thing I'll say. Make consuner products. Second I lost a dog to Lymes quite some time back. What do I do now? When out in the field my pooches are placed ont he tail gate and given a head to toe examination. Place to look for ticks is behind the ears, near the eyes, along the back, up around the collar, and in the pocket of the front legs. A fine toothed flea comb helps greatly if the dog does not have a long coat. A long coated dog will need a stiffer longer toothed comb. The next day dogs are checked befroe released. By checking it is by feel and not by sight! My dogs have dark coats :( Second no matter if I find a tick or not I treat with a Pyrethrum alcohol pump sprayer and really wet the coat of the dog after a rmp or hunt int he field. The alcohol will dry quickly. Pyrethrum is a natural not synthetic contact insecticide that KILLS ON CONTACT. I do not care for an insecticide that really makes my dog's skin toxic! That is what Frontline does. It becomes a systemic. That means it travels through the upper epidermal layer of the skin. There are countires that are reveiwing the insecticide that is in Frontline. There has been a few reported cases of toxiological effects to both amn and animals. My choice of spray is Pre-Cor and can be bought form any vet supply house. Has anywhere between 0.5 to 1.00 % Pyrethrum and a 1.00% synergist - usually PBO. CAN'T SAY THIS ENOUGH WHAT EVER YOU USE!!!! FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS EXPLICITLY! jw! |
RE: Lyme Disease ?
be careful with any pyrethins!! they work great as insecticides, however, they can be toxic if a dog or cat gets exposed to too much at one time!!
|
RE: Lyme Disease ?
sorry JW! didnt read all the way down your post! like you said, always read and follow label directions!!
|
RE: Lyme Disease ?
one of these days i will learn how to post everything i want to say on one post!! there is a lyme disease vaccine on the market. I have not used it enough to know how effective it is, however i am sure it would at least minimize symptoms if given properly. ask your vet. if your dog is exposed to lots of ticks, it would definitely be worthwhile.
