Quick question

At what age do you normally start training your dog to be a good hunter?

RE: Quick question

As soon as possible. I started my female when I acquired her (thirteen weeks) and my male (her son) at birth. My female had only one pup and as soon as I found out she was done (vet x-ray), I was introducing the pup to woodcock wings. He is now 2 1/2 and is as much the hunter as his mom. In my opinion, there is no time that is to soon.

RE: Quick question

I start play training right away. This is also the time they learn "here" and "kennel."

The real bird work starts as soon as they are big enough to go out after wild birds...in the country I hunt that usually means about 6-months-old.

RE: Quick question

Hey I also have a quick question for the more experienced bird dog hunter, I have a pointing-lab (father registered, mother natural) and I was wondering what I need to do to train her to point and retrieve with dependability?
