RE: inside bird dog

WE HAVE TWO BRITTANY'S, RICKY & LUCY. THEY STAY OUTSIDE BETTER THAN HALF THE TIME, BUT SLEEP INSIDE AND ARE PRETTY MUCH KEPT INSIDE DURING EXTREMELY COLD OR HOT DAYS. IT HAS NOT AFFECTED THEIR HUNTING ABILITY AT ALL. THEY LOVE TO GET OUT AND HIT THE FIELDS HARD FOR HOURS AT A TIME. RICKY IS AN OBNOXIOUS BLOCKHEAD,THAT I WOULD NOT TRADE FOR A MILLION DOLLARS,BUT HE GOT THAT WAY NATURALLY AND NOT FROM BEING KEPT INSIDE. AND IT LOOKS LIKE, FROM THE RESPONSES, THAT YOU MIGHT BE KEEPING YOURS INSIDE ALSO.
GOOD LUCK..........

Big Lead put it best. My family and dog are all part of the same pack. I keep my GSP inside and she doesn't have any trouble switching gears from house manners to hunting machine. I think being together really helps with the bond between us. And because she's around the rest of the family, she listens to them too. She knows her place in the pecking order. I think if I just left her outside, she'd listen only to me, because I'm the only one who really takes her out for training and hunting.

My 70 pound GSP sleeps UNDER THE COVERS!! Talk about a heater! He lays across my legs and moves around, takes the covers, etc. After 7 years I am pretty used to it. He is quite the pampered dog, but hunts hard and listens pretty well. I personally wouldn't have it any other way, great slient alarm/gaurd dog too.
