RE: HELP! Setter won' t point

Seattle,
We went out and hunted on Saturday. No birds. The dog went on point one time on a fence row but no bird was had. The day was cut pretty short though, the dog got caught up in some barbed-wire laying along the fence row and cut up his chest area. Been putting some anti bacteria cream on him and he is doing really well right now so I think that we will give it another go this weekend. Thanks for checking back.

Barbed-wire can be a real pain in the neck for a bird dog (and it' s owner). Please keep us up to date on his development and on how he does on his next few hunts.

Esetter-

If you are having trouble getting into birds, you might try heading up into the panhandle of Nebraska or Western Kansas. My parents retired to the Ft. Collins area, and make trips back to Nebraska to hunt on a regular basis. Colorado' s pheasants are on a comeback, but there still aren' t a lot of them around.

To amend what blackliner says, both of those areas...especially Kansas...might have a few bobwhite coveys. The combination of quail and pheasants should be more than enough to get your dog interested, bird-crazy and pointing with the best of ' em.

His advice should be given the utmost consideration.
