Labrador shoulder pain

anybody have experience with shoulder pain in an older female lab ? My best Buddy is just about to turn 13 years old ! Past few weeks she has showed a sore left shoulder ! I have made a plank walk so she can get in and out of vehicles with little trouble, But she seems to be getting worse, She has hard time as she gets up from sleeping or napping ! She now has a hard time going up and down stairs ! Any experience with reasonable meds or ?

odds are its a age related thing and arthritis or some joint wear and tear
your vet should be able to recommend some things to try to help, but sadly its just a part of getting old
best advice, is start to allow less climbing stairs and if possible LIFT her into your vehicles as to having her climb a plank or??
the less she moves the better she will be at this point
sucks seeing them get old , I feel for both of you's!
I do know many that had luck with this stuff, but its no time machine! WIsh it was!

and even if you start something like this and see a improvement, your still going to be WAY better off STOPPING as much of the steps and climbing as you can, wear and tear still happen, even if something helps masks some of the pain from it!
also, if her weight is a little HIGH< start trimming back, less weight to carry less pain on joints!

My 14 yr old Chocolate Lab displayed the same type of symptoms. Unfortunately, when I brought her to the vet she was diagnosed with bone cancer. They gave me meds, but at her age, she was pretty far gone. Had to have her put down as I just couldn't bear to see her suffer any longer. She was a great companion for all those years, and having to put her down was dam near the hardest thing I ever had to do. They say you know when and if you go to heaven, all the dogs you ever loved will be there to greet you.

Hopefully your situation is not like mine. Best of luck with you best friend.

Cosequin works well for pain, but if your dog is in that much pain she should have already been taken to a vet instead of trying to diagnosing the problem yourself. Giving medication for what you suspect instead of having a vet look at your dog could just mask the symptoms while doing more damage. Pain is natures way of saying "something is wrong"

Your vet might suggest Glucosamine and Chondroitin for pets.

I also use it on a daily basis...and it seems to work wonders for me.

Maybe the dog should be tested for Lyme disease.
