Best pointing dog for apartment living?
Hi :-)
I am new to this site, and I had like hear some input on breed selection. Because of my work situation I am currently living in an apartment on the outskirts of a medium sized city, but with lots of opportunities for hiking and outdoors experiences. I want a pointing dog, primarily for hunting ptarmigan but I wouldn't mind to try hunting for new game (waterfowl particularly). Previously I have had English Setters, and I have a real appreciation for their temperament and the width of their search. From hunting with friends I have experience with Gordon Setters and Brittanies. It will be used for hunting and I have no problem meeting its daily exercise requirements. My big hangup is that it will be alone in a 70 square meter apartment for 6 hours a day five days a week (during the weekend it will tag along to my cottage and have lots of room to roam). I want my dog to be happy and therefore I had like some input on which pointing breed that is best suited for weekdays in an apartment. |
This will be a little biased, but I love the Pointing Labrador. I own 3 and will soon have a 4th. Another person who is on this forum has them and does both upland and waterfowl with his in Washington State.

If you are concerned about space in your apt. You should look at small Munsterlanders.
