(" the only problem is I am leaving on Sat. for the Blueridge." ) a friend is going to check on the kennel for me while were gone[8D].hope he can give Boots his meds. anyone ever had a dog with this problem????? |
RE: Boots Has Bad Ear Infection !!!!!!!!
My mother-in-law' s yellow lab had severe ear infections. Please, spend the money for the meds, It' s so sad to see them in that much pain. Your little buddy will thank you so much when he can scratch his head without crying in pain.

Thats a big 10-4 on that.he is doing better now.the meds. seems to be working.
he is not slinging he head as much and doesn' t seem to be in as much pain. he' s my blood trail dog and my buddy.I can walk up to the kennel and open the gate and call his name and he is like a young pup.he' s ready. if you got dogs you have to take care of them like a child;(they can' t do it themslef' s). |
RE: Boots Has Bad Ear Infection !!!!!!!!
Ear infections are quite common especially in Labs/Retreivers, Basset Hounds, and Cockers. Even mild infections should be treated with at least topical antibiotics or they may turn into serious problems.
$78 a bottle....wow....I must be cheap. My most expensive ear product is 20 bucks. What product are you using if you don' t mind me asking? |
RE: Boots Has Bad Ear Infection !!!!!!!!
Doc is right and so are the others. My Lab gets ear infections about once a year, even though I clean her ears weekly and after every duck hunt. My vet gave her a shot, gave me a topical antibiotic and some cleaning/drying liquid ...total cost $88.

RE: Boots Has Bad Ear Infection !!!!!!!!
wvvet: I have been gone for a week.the med he gave was a antibotic he said was the next to the most powerful he could give.I will have to look at the bottle to see what the name is and get back to you on that.
I guess I should have said the visit and meds. was $78.00,that would make the meds. a little cheaper." sorry" [&o] if I can think of it I will get the name of the med. |
RE: Boots Has Bad Ear Infection !!!!!!!!
Doc - Are there any over-the-counter meds that are good for minor ear infections or for keeping an infection at bay until a vet can be reached? I have English Setters and they are not overly susceptible to this problem but I often hunt for a couple of days to a week at a time with 5-8 dogs and would love to be able to carry something with me that doesn' t require a prescription

RE: Boots Has Bad Ear Infection !!!!!!!!
Unfortunately there are no over-the-counter meds that I know of that have antibiotics in them that I know are safe for the ear....sorry. Antibiotics are usually needed to control an infection. HOWEVER, in a pinch, you can buy an over-the-counter cleaner. You can find cleaners just about anywhere that carries pet supplies. Just the very fact of cleaning the ear a couple of times a day may help a problem from getting worse and may help a minor infection.
