FINDING A LOST DOG
 

This is related to my LOST DOG RETURNS HOME thread in the Off Season forum.

We were camping at a lake in Northern Ontario last week. One of the other cottagers was out picking berries and came across a dog whining in a field. It was all properly tagged and was from Charlevoix Michigan. She waited for a half hour and no one showed up, so she took the dog back to her camp and was going to start looking for the owner.

Suddenly there was a knock on her door. A guy was there and said, “You have my dog?” The guy was bear hunting in the area and the dog was fitted with some sort of beacon. The guy simply followed it to the camp. My questions, seeing how my lost dog was found more by luck, are:

What kind of device are these?
Where can you get them?
How much?
What kind of range are we talking about?
Etc, etc, etc.

I figured you guys in this forum would know.

Was likely a tracking collar. The dog has a collar fitted with a radio transmitter that sends out a signal to a hand held reciever. We use them on our coon dogs and they work great, save many hours of sleep. You can get them that range miles on flat ground. You get in hills and the range goes down but we hunt hills and can pick the dogs up out to a mile. One collar and a reciever will cost you around $600 for a good setup.

several of the guys I hunt with use them. they have some that reach 10 miles(on flat land)here in Fla. we have flat land.they say 10 miles,but most are 6 to 7 at the outside.
They save a lot of looking and lots of gas.

we use tracking collers on our walkerhounds to.tracking device is a must around here . we hunt hills and flat bottems around here in tenn.works great.just like mez said 600$ will get a good setup. our tracking device is called wild life tracker and we have l&l device we got to.if i was you i would get one, look on wickoutdoors.com or bill boatman.com for some deals.
