New, One-day Test for Lymphoma
A new diagnostic test developed by two companies in the U.K. is able to detect whether a dog with lymphadenopathy, or inflammation of the lymph nodes, is suffering from lymphoma or another illness.
The two companies, Tridelta Development Ltd. and Petscreen Ltd., formed a joint venture to introduce the Tri-Screen Canine Lymphoma Assay Kit. A brand new blood test can now tell veterinarians and dog owners in one day whether swollen lymph nodes are canine lymphoma. Swollen lymph nodes, known as lymphadenopathy, have a wide range of causes, including infection, an allergic response, immune-mediated disease, and cancer. Definitive diagnosis of lymphoma has historically been made through invasive biopsy procedures. But a new blood test gives results in a single day, allowing for immediate diagnosis and timely decisions about treatment. There are no guarantees your dog won’t get lymphoma or some other form of cancer, but keeping their immune system strong and balanced is the best way to help the body defend itself against disease. . |
Oh this is exciting. My dad lost his dog Sam because they didnt know if he had as big of a problem as he did. With more regulated and more accurate test maybe hundreds of dogs can be spared.
