German Shepherd for Coon Hunting?

I've been looking on my local listings for a coonhound, but by the time I got to them, all of them were sold. I was looking today and saw these German Shepherd pups (http://roanoke.craigslist.org/grd/2027009503.html) and was wondering how they would do out chasing coons? I read somewhere that they do not bark on the run so you must use an alternative method to tracking the dog. So, what do yall think of training a German Shepherd to hunt coon and other small game?

My folks have raised german shepards since I was a little kid. And it would take some training but it could be done. They are super smart dogs and will do anything to please there master. The first male that we had used to tree squirrels and cats around the house and he would bark like crazy as soon as they were treed but wouldn't bark until then. A silent trailer most of the time will tree coon faster because they don't hear him coming a mile away. One of the best coon dogs I ever hunted with was a chocolate lab, walker cross that was silent on the trail but he treed like he was nuts. Good luck!!

They make electronic tracking systems for coondogs that may be a good investment for you if your dog is silent on the trail. Good luck should be fun to see how things go.
