hunting skills, after 46 yrs hunting, anymore i dont know.last 5 yrs i shoot over heads of grouse just so toby knows i am trying,i cant see killing the few grouse that are left.
i only hunt mature bucks do to lack of deer here in pa now,so its task to get buck now.
bear i stopped hunting but now you can use a recurve to hunt bear ,so i may hunt bear this year with my fred bear recurve from 1960.
as you get older your physical skills are not good. roght now as we talk my feet hurt like h.

i can say it was easy to hunt in 60s,70s here in pa.15 minutes i would have limit of grouse in ANY HOLLOW .you would very seldom see hunter.
now its reverse, few grouse and lots of hunters.......:confused0024:

at your age of 15,i would climb a tree without treestand just use limbs to go up 20 ft, now i see kids that need a climbing treestand, thats no fun.
i used to jump on deer backs at 15 and try to ride them from apple tree when the buck would go under it.

i could go on but my be boring to you ,take care sproul.....

:D My family is German as well any only own German breeds of hunting dogs named Fritz, Ludwig, Rommel, Bizmark etc.
They only own German Breeds, drink German beer and think Heid Clume is the perfect woman. I on the other hand for some reason prefer Labs, drink Labatts, Corona & Bud Lite and think Jessica Alba is the perfect woman. I guess every family has a black sheep in it!!:DPike

Names NOT to use...........

Whatever you do- DON'T use the following names, they are the most over used & un-original names out there for dogs. If I had a dollar for every dog I've come across with these names, I could retire today:

- Berretta
- Ruger

Turkey Fife 04-10-2010 09:18 PM

If its a hunting dog you want to keep the name simple: Pat, pete, bill, same with comands, sit, heal, down, come, bird, the simpler the better.

Ditto...
and add these to the list- Gunner, Hunter, Shotgun, Bear (black dog), Chip/Coco (chocolate dog). I like Judah and Asher, it's different and shows a little imagination.

bobeyerite 04-11-2010 12:04 PM

Hi fellow hunters My name is GUNNE. According to Websters Dictionary That means "A hunter who uses a gun." I am the hunter and finder of the birds. Bob is my gun. I am now 3 months old.

NickWRosa 04-22-2010 11:02 AM

My choc lab's name is Berkley... maybe not for you but pretty BA... I second gunner and trigger. Also, I've always like Gauge, but I'm thinking that more of a chick's name.

harter66 04-22-2010 12:15 PM

As a kid we had weimeraners there was Chip (Presty's Silver Chip),Schnapps (just a tiny little thing ,if she wasn't hunting it was nap time) ,Unique (she was ,and it reminded the trap club guys what my Dad shot the most of), there was Darwin the 35lb poodle whose parents both weighed less than a pound, and my last dog the rotweiler/spriger/lab Purdy (the youngest was hungup on the 100+dalmations). Its just too hard on me now I think when kids are gone and the dogs they have now are (Sarge,LB,Ozzyand Maggi ) I'll be all dogged out for a lifetime.

2 Samuel 22:35 04-22-2010 04:31 PM

You guys have some pretty sweet names!

outdoorsfellar 06-15-2010 09:03 AM

The GSP I had was named Pete. I've missed him so much these past two years since he died that the name for my new Weimer pup was gonna be .... Repete...lol. My wife overruled that one so we kept the name the breeder gave him ... Sully !

how do guns work 06-28-2010 01:59 PM

The names Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope, Snoop Dogg, Gangsta Mac, and Olive are names that would appeal to me if I had a dog to name :D
