Thumbs up Spring has sprung here in the northeast !!

It's been a long winter here in New England & I've been itching to get Katy out with other dogs and to train with
other pointing dog folks.
On Saturday, we traveled down to CT and hooked up with some great folks for some Field Trial training- working young dogs
from horseback, working adult dogs on conditioning runs & birdwork......... a good day- save for the cut on my young charge's rear left leg.

I brought my two sons & we got them up on a horse. They both enjoyed riding and got their first lesson on a nice, calm Rocky Mountain Philly named "Z".

With any luck, I'll have my oldest handling in a couple years, just about the time Katy hits her prime. On Sunday, I decided to go easy on her and just work her on some birds:

Checking back after the breakaway

"Dad. there's a bird RIGHT here!"

Steady to flush (and to shot- for that matter)

Coming out of the thick stuff & taking a breather

After a job well done

Darn, I LOVE Gundog training !!

Nice looking dogs & kids! Glad you had fun. BTW, that's a huge cow bell you got on her. I tried smaller bells but every time she went into the bush it would hang up. I kept loosing them and gave up after 2-3 outings.

Actually, it's only a #6 Sheep Bell...........
She's only 10 months old. When I break out the collar with that bell on it, she practically jumps into it 'cuz she knows what it means....... the same with the beeper collar.

Katy has been a dream to train- she's green broke at 10 months of age & we've just started FF.
