What books?

What are some books you guys have read and found helpful?

I just got a Chesapeake/Lab cross. Both parents were purebreds and it was an accidental breeding. (adopted him)

Most of my hunting will be for pheasants, but I would like to get him on some ducks and geese as well.

And, books for the puppy stages. Basic Obedience and the like.

I have Water Dog, just wondering what other books you guys would recommend, might make a trip into town tomorrow.

I like SmartFetch by Evan Graham

This will cover basic obedience and take you through force fetching your dog into blind retrieves.

Good luck

Some people call them cheasadors!! Have seen some that make some really good dogs. I really do not think there are many bad training books out there, just different variations of approaches and opinions.

Yes and no. You are right most books are usable with the exception of one already mention, Water Dog. It is the the worst book on retriever training hands down I have read. Not all books use the same basic system. Most books books use some variation of a Rex Carr method. But there are some like "clicker" training, and Wolters.
The best source I have seen for early training is Jackie Merten's "Sound Beginnings" DVD. I would join a local club to find training groups who you can train with and show you how to train. Use the Wolter's book to level a sofa, makes for good tinder as well.
