Antler shed hunting with a dog?

Does anyone use a dog to help you find shed antlers? If so, what kind of dog is it? What kind do you recommend I get if I decide to get one when my old mutt says goodbye? I have read some articles about it and it looks like labs are what some use. I personally am not a big fan of labs because they seem so hiper all the time. Is there a breed out there that I could train that's not so hiper? Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

RE: Antler shed hunting with a dog?

I asked the same question on here a while back. I got some help, but I don't think there are many people into it yet. There are some and they helped out. I was asking before I got my dog. I ended up getting a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She is about 15 weeks now and I think she will do great. She has an outstanding nose. Her first toy was a shed and she has played with it ever since. I work with her just like I was training her to retrieve birds. When I take her to mydad's place (where I hunt)and let her run around she brings back more bonesout of the woods than any pup I have ever seen. I think she will work out great.

By the way, where at in WI. I live in Iowa now, but grew up in Platteville.
