springers Vs. waterspaniels

ive been born and raised on springers (i live in MN so we do alot of rooster huntin) i think springers are some of the best dogs in the world. but min wont retrive ducks. they swim out there touch the duck with thier nose and swim back. they wont put them in thier mouth. so the other day i wnet with my cousin to his kennel and i saw this amaercan waterspaniel gorgeous as can be. i watched it in the field and it worked great and i assume its good with ducks. is the waterspaniel what its cracked up to be?

RE: springers Vs. waterspaniels

I've had the pleasure of duck hunting with two waterspaniels, they are very good retrievers, surprisingly though, both of these females were not great once the water got icy. Their coats weren't as thick as a lab or springer for example. Perhaps it was because they were indoor dogs.
