Electric Fences
I live in Southern Michigan on 40 acres that has 2000 acres of crop land behind. The problem is our road is a highly traveled corridor with average speeds close to 65MPH according to a police study. At night or when I am not home, thedogs stay in the 2 acre kennel. However, I want insurance when they are out that they will not go in the road. I do not care if they run the back 40 or in the swamps,as long as they stay out of the road.
Is there an electric fence on the market that can be strung in a straight line asto stop the dogs from goinginto the road? If I string the normal electric fencing wires in anarrow circle down and back, willthis act as two barriers and keep the dogs from crossing? Do electric fences correct the dogs if they are outside the fence and attempt to return? I would not mind a double barrier as 185 pound Great Danes can "go" when they want to. I appreciate the help and advice. |
RE: Electric Fences
I have had experiences with the single wire that goes around the bottom of fences to keep the animal from digging out and it worked very well. I had a Rottweiler that I only needed to keep it hot for a couple of months and he learned not to dig out. I never had to make the wire hot again. The dogs learn pretty quick that when they touch that spot it is not pleasant. It does not hurt the dog and only gets their attention.
