I have never heard anything good about DT collars. Spend the $ and go with either TriTronics or Dogtra.

RE: ? on remote dog trainers.
I have a DT Systems 2020 collar that I use for training my Lab. It seems to be a good collar. It has been waterresistent for the past 8 months. After reading many books and viewing many videos on electronic collars, I have found the use to be more important than the collar. If you want to put your dogs on their asses, use the most powerful one you can find. I do not recommend nor condone this type of " training" . Stimulation should only be enough to bring the dog aware of the fact that " something is going on" . This is only my opinion. I recommend a training video for recommendations on how to use a collar, then research the brands to find out what will work for you.
Good Luck! |

I' ll support OHIODUCKHUNTER. First you learn. Then you teach. Then you use low stimulation to reinforce commands.
I bought Cabelas brand (one collar) which is TriTronics for about $150. I' ve used it for one duck season and It was great. It is important to have a range of stimulations so you can find the right one for your dogs. Mine has 15 and I train on 4. You also need to decide the range of distance you will need. For duck hunting the 300 yrd has always been enough for me. Good luck. |
RE: ? on remote dog trainers.
I found a place that is a Tritronics dealer that is also an authorized repair place for them that sells reconditioned units. I bought the Trashbreaker for my coonhound that has a range of 2miles for half of what they cost new (list at 445. I paid 195.). The company is located in Traverse City Michigan called Collar Clinic and if you go to Tritronics you go to the dealer sites and you will find their site as well as a list of prices of new and reconditioned that they have on hand. The best deal I hear from others is the Tritronics Classic which goes about 299. Mine being older I have to deal with plugs being used which I guess you don' t with the newer ones but I do have the capability of changing my own batteries which you could not do with the older models such as " The Judge" which cost 109 bucks to have " reconditioned" no matter what is wrong with it. I know from experience on this. The bottom line is stay with the better name units like Tritronics.
