sq. in roll cage?

in training a Cur to hunt squirrels, would i get the same results with a squirrel in a roll cage as i would if i were training a bluetick with a racoon in a roll cage? Tried it? heard of it?

RE: sq. in roll cage?

Will work the same way. After it bays it for a few minutes, hold the dog & turn the squirrel loose. Do not release the dog too quick but let it run it up a tree. Dog might tree the first time or it might take a few times but if it has it in it, it will soon start treeing. After it chases a few, release the dog on one a little sooner & let it catch it. Hopefully the squirrel will bite the dog. Once the dog is bitten, usually makes them hate a squirrel from then on. Once it starts treeing the released squirrel, quit the cage & release training & put it in the woods where there are squirrels as many times a week as possible. Instinct will take over from there. I start all my pups like this & have been very successful. I had one pup that never would fool with a caged squirrel but made a heck of a squirrel dog.
